A morte do Exchange Edge Services

Agora já é oficial! A versão Exchange Edge Services nunca vai chegar a ver a luz do dia. Depois de sucessivos adiamentos e de alguma indefinição, a Microsoft resolveu cancelar o lançamento do produto.
A posição oficial da Microsoft é de que o tempo necessário para "artilhar" o Exchange Edge Services com as funcionalidades que os clientes pretendem é demasiado longo, pelo que coincidiria com o lançamento da próxima versão do Exchange (também sem data prevista).

"Microsoft received extensive input from customers requesting that Edge Services be broader than its initial scope to include messaging policy capabilities that organizations need to help meet regulatory compliance requirements. To meet this customer need, Microsoft required additional development time which placed the delivery date of Edge Services close to the release date of the next version of Exchange Server."

Resta-nos esperar pelo Service Pack 2 do Exchange 2003, agendado para o segundo semestre de 2005, que incluirá algumas das funcionalidades previstas inicialmente para o Exchange Edge Services.
