Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 SP1

Depois de um lançamento acidental no Microsoft Update, a versão final do Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 foi finalmente disponibilizada.

Overview
Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) resolves issues that were found in Exchange Server 2007 SP1 since the software was released. This update rollup is highly recommended for all Exchange Server 2007 SP1 customers.

Mailbox Server Role Storage Requirements Calculator v16.0

O Ross Smith IV anunciou no Microsoft Exchange Team Blog que a ferramenta Mailbox Server Role Storage Requirements Calculator foi actualizada para a versão 16.0.

De acordo com a página de updates no blog You Had Me At EHLO, estas são as correcções/melhorias:

• The changes introduced in v15.6 in the Storage Design worksheet introduced a logic error where the recommended RAID Configuration / Server would recommend a null configuration when you selected "--" for the database disk type in Configuration 3.  This has been corrected to ensure that only enabled disk configurations are considered when making a recommendation.
• Validation logic was added to the custom database size input factor to remind you that you need to enter in a value greater than 0.
• Fixed various input factor comments.
• Fixed RAID-0 calculations for the database and log configuration options 2 and 3.  In previous releases, the RAID-0 values for these configurations were utilizing the RAID-1/0 data points.
• Updated the backup and restore rate input factors to indicate that these only apply for steaming backup calculations.  Also added validation logic to disable the input options when VSS backup methodologies are chosen.
• Fixed the streaming backup rate calculations to include all transaction logs generated in a day (user generation + move mailbox).  Previous releases only considered user log generation.
• Updated the text and note for the "Additional I/O Requirement" field to indicate that the input value is per mailbox server.
• Added streaming restore calculations for both full database restore and incremental / differential backup restore to the Backup requirements worksheet.
• Added the following note to the Storage Design worksheet - Important: This tool should only be used for storage modeling purposes.  Please consult with the storage vendor regarding storage design and follow recommended storage design testing processes.  The example configuration provided within this calculator is just that, an example, and as such, each input option needs to be evaluated as to how it will affect your design.

Installation instructions
If you have Microsoft Outlook 2003, do one of the following:

• Install Update for Outlook 2003 (KB924423). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Download the .exe file by clicking on the Download button at the top of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
     • office2003-KB924423-fullfile-enu.exe: You should download this file if you have access to your original product CD-ROM. You might need to provide the installation source during patch installation if you have previously updated your product.
  2. It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.

Administrator resources
Administrators working in managed environments can find complete resources for deploying Office updates in an organization on the Office Admin Update Center. On that site, scroll down and look under the Update Resources section for the product version you are updating.
The download for this update is available by clicking on the Download button at the top of the page. You can double-click the executable package to begin installation, or extract the patch files (MSP files) by using a command line. Scalable Networking Pack (SNP) hotfix para Windows 2003

O Scalable Networking Pack (SNP) é uma funcionalidade que foi introduzida com o SP1 do Windows Server 2003 e que também existe no Windows Server 2008 (mas está desligada por omissão).

Embora o SNP seja uma boa ideia, já que pode melhorar o desempenho da rede, a verdade é que também pode causar alguns comportamentos estranhos no Exchange (para mais detalhes, leiam Windows 2003 Scalable Networking pack and its possible effects on Exchange).

Após a notícia destes problemas, a Microsoft lançou um hotfix que desligava o SNP. Um novo hotfix foi agora lançado, recomendo que quem tenha instalado o primeiro faça agora a respectiva actualização.

Overview
The Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Administration tool enables administrators to manage the process of remotely erasing lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised mobile devices.

By using the Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Administration tool, administrators can perform the following actions:
• View a list of all devices that are being used by any enterprise user
• Select/De-select devices to be remotely erased
• View the status of pending remote erase requests for each device
• View a transaction log that indicates which administrators have issued remote erase commands, in addition to the devices those commands pertained to

The Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Administration Tool is designed for use with Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 and Exchange Server 2007 RTM and SP1 and compatible mobile devices.

Download Guidance
There are three versions of the Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Adminstration Tool that you may download depending on the version of Exchange deployed in your organization.

First, for Exchange Server 2003 SP2 only deployments, please select the downloadable file named "MobileAdmin (Ex2003).exe".

Second, for Exchange Server 2007 only or mixed Exchange environments (Exchange Server 2007 and 2003 SP2) where this tool will be installed on a 32-bit Windows Operating System, please select the downloadable file named "MobileAdmin (32-bit).msi".

Third, for Exchange deployments similiar to the second deployment scenario above, but this tool will be installed on a 64bit Windows Operating System, please select the downloadable file named "MobileAdmin.msi".

Email Prioritizer - como gerir a sobrecarga de email

Os Microsoft Office Labs lançaram recentemente um protótipo de uma ferramenta que permite gerir a sobrecarga de correio electrónico: Email Prioritizer.

"Email Prioritizer is a plug-in for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (running on Exchange Server) that helps you manage email overload. This concept test provides a “do not disturb” button that temporarily pauses new email arrival, and prioritizes email with a 0-3 star rating system. We hope this prototype helps you focus on the emails that are most important to you."

É a notícia do dia, a Microsoft finalmente anunciou a sua política de suporte ao Exchange Server em ambientes virtuais. O Exchange não só será suportado em Hyper-V, mas também em qualquer hypervisor validado pelo programa Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP).

1. Microsoft now supports Exchange Server 2007 SP1 running Hyper-V or hypervisors validated under the Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP).
2. Microsoft is waiving its 90-day license reassignment policy to enable customers who virtualize Exchange to move their licenses between servers within a data farm as often as necessary.

Como é habitual, a equipa do Microsoft Exchange Team escreveu o seu post mensal sobre as últimas actualizações de documentação técnica do Exchange Server.

Forefront for Exchange SP1 Rollup 3

A equipa do Forefront Server Security acaba de anunciar que o Forefront for Exchange SP1 Rollup 3 já está disponível.

Quem quiser obter já o Rollup 3 para o Forefront terá de contactar o Suporte da Microsoft, uma vez que nesta altura não existe ainda um link para o respectivo download.

Rollup 3 resolves the following issues:

• 954564: The scan engines are not updated in Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1, and a Dr. Watson event is logged.
• 954578: Sender notifications are not sent in Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1 if the "From" field in the original e-mail message header has multiple lines.
• 951761: Rollup version not displayed in the Forefront Help menu - About Forefront.
• 951936: The General Options screen goes blank in Forefront for Exchange when you use the Tab key to scroll through the options.
• 951920: The Forefront Administrator crashes when attempting to close it while the "License Information" pop-up is open.
• 951921: The FSCController service cannot start-up successfully if a corrupt .fdb configuration file is loaded.
• 954092: Engine Updates taking more than 5 minutes to download do not complete.
• 951922: FSCDiag.exe now collects process and PID information from your Forefront server.
• 951923: Forefront for Exchange may see the following issue: ADGetStorage - Could not bind to Active Directory configuration context. Error code: 80005000.
• 952040: Forefront for Exchange will now scan for WMV files that have had their extensions renamed.
• 952039: Forefront for Exchange does not manually scan Public Folders if non-MAPI Public Folders are in the organization.
• 954577: The Start menu shortcut that points to Forefront for Exchange does not work in the German version of Windows Server 2008.
• 954565: Nested .msg attachments are not detected as nested attachments in e-mail messages in Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1.
• 954093: The Filter List order is not updated on scan jobs when you delete and recreate a filter list of the same name.
• 953965: Forefront for Exchange may corrupt messages when attaching messages whose subject lines match a file filter set to Delete/Remove.
• 954561: You are unable to update scan engines through a proxy on a computer that is running Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1.
• 954094: FSCDiag does not collect engine version info in the verForeFront.csv file when installed on a cluster.
• 954907: E-mail messages are not sent when you are running Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1.
• 954934: Added a log message upon failure of setting up an active/passive Forefront cluster.
• 954911: A scan job fails on a computer that is running Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1.
• 954941: E-mail messages start to build into a queue and the Fsctransportscanner.exe process uses lots of memory when Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 is running.
• 953956: Forefront for Exchange false detecting winmail.dat files as corruptedcompressedfile virus
• 954942: You cannot collect data when you try to use the Forefront Server Security Management Console on an SCC cluster that has Forefront for Exchange with Service Pack 1 installed.
• 955010: The FSCDiag.exe utility does not collect the correct data in Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1.

Exchange 2003 Powerpack for PowerGUI

Exchange 2003 System Manager for Windows Vista

• Must be installed on Windows Vista or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1).
• The following must be installed by a user who has Administrative rights. Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Administration Tools Pack or Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Tools Pack (x86). We recommend installing R2.
• Windows Server 2008 is not supported.

Exchange Server 2007 MP for OpsMgr 2007 v6.0.6363.0

O recentemente (re)lançado Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007 sofreu uma pequena actualização para a versão 6.0.6363.0.

Overview
The Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 management pack is designed to be used for monitoring Exchange 2007 events, collecting Exchange component-specific performance counters in one central location, and for raising alerts for operator intervention as necessary. By detecting, sending alerts, and automatically responding to critical events, this management pack helps indicate, correct, and prevent possible service outages or configuration problems, allowing you to proactively manage Exchange servers and identify issues before they become critical. The management pack monitors and provides alerts for automatic notification of events indicating service outages, performance degradation, health monitoring, and centralized management.
This Management Pack requires Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1.
This Management Pack requires the Operations Manager 2007 updates specified in Knowledge Base articles 950853, 951979 and 951380 (see the Management Pack Guide for details).

Brief Description
Simulate disk I/O load on a test server running Exchange to verify the performance and stability of your disk subsystem before putting your server into a production environment.

Overview
Use Jetstress to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users. You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.
Jetstress 2007 (08.02.0060) Updates: Configuration files and databases created with 08.01.0177 release of Jetstress will not work with version 08.02.0060 . A new configuration file and new databases must be created when using the 08.02.0060 release.

• Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2007 (KB953469)

Para além de todas as correcções que introduzem, também resolvem a vulnerabilidade descrita no Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-039.

 

Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Overview
Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) resolves issues that were found in Exchange Server 2007 SP1 since the software was released. This update rollup is highly recommended for all Exchange Server 2007 SP1 customers.
For a list of changes that are included in this update rollup, see KB949870.
This update rollup does not apply to Exchange Server 2007 Release To Manufacturing (RTM). For a list of update rollups applicable to Exchange Server 2007 RTM, refer to the section Update rollups for Exchange Server 2007 RTM in the Knowledge Base article KB937052.
This is a cumulative update rollup and replaces the following:
