• We added the calculated (or user defined) read/write ratio per mailbox tier into the Storage Requirements Results User Mailbox Configuration table.
• We added the server's calculated database read I/O percentage value into the Storage Requirements Results Disk Space & Performance Requirements table.
• Since the Recovery Point Objective input question only dealt with SCR, we moved that from the Log Replication section to the Standby Continuous Replication Configuration table.
• We added a new message profile, Extra Heavy.  With this additional profile, we now have 5 available messaging profiles.

Actualização do XML para o ExBPA

O Ananth Ramanathan acaba de anunciar no blog You Had Me At EHLO que está disponível uma nova actualização de XML para o Exchange Best Practices Analyzer (ExBPA).

"The update applies to the tools shipped with Exchange Server 2007 systems with Service Pack 1 applied. It is currently only available for English language servers at this time.

The following tools have received an updated set of rules:
1. Best Practices Analyzer
2. Disaster Recovery and Performance Troubleshooter

What is contained in the update?
The update contains mainly bug fixes for the above tools.

The BPA tool is also run automatically during setup and readiness checks. We have updated the prerequisites XML file for setup. So any Exchange setup launched on a machine connected to the Internet will download the updated prerequisites file to check for the correct prerequisites."

Recente, num dia de chuva, passei uma tarde muito agradável a tentar melhorar os meus conhecimentos de PowerShell. Para isso, decidi ler Exchange Management Shell: TFM, um livro da autoria de Ilse Van Criekinge, Exchange MVP e vencedora do concurso Speaker Idol no Tech.Ed EMEA 2007.

Tal como a Ilse diz, este não é o tipo de livro que explica detalhadamente os conceitos técnicos do Exchange Server 2007, é antes de mais um cookbook, uma referência para os profissionais de Exchange em busca de soluções para as tarefas do dia-a-dia.

Exchange Server Remote Connectivity Analyzer

Não se trata propriamente de notícias frescas, esta ferramenta já está disponível há algum tempo, mas era apenas um protótipo. Agora que entrou finalmente em Beta, resolvi blogar sobre o assunto.

Overview
With Microsoft Office Outlook Connector, you can use Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to access and manage your Microsoft Windows Live Hotmail or Microsoft Office Live Mail accounts, including e-mail messages, contacts and calendars for free!
Outlook Connector enables you to use your Live Hotmail accounts within Outlook:

• Read and send your Office Live Mail/Windows Live Hotmail e-mail messages.
• Manage your contacts in Windows Live Hotmail.
• Use advanced options for blocking junk e-mail messages.
• Manage multiple e-mail accounts in one place.
• Manage, and synchronize multiple calendars, including shared calendars to Windows Live Calendar from Outlook.

Note to Premium Subscribers: If you are currently using MSN Calendar service, the Outlook Connector 12.1 will automatically migrate your calendar to the new Windows Live Calendar service. Once upgraded to Windows Live Calendar, you will be able to synchronize multiple calendars, including shared calendars to Outlook! However you will no longer be able to access MSN Calendar through Microsoft Office Outlook.
In order to make sure that all of your calendar items on the MSN Calendar service are correctly migrated to the Windows Live Calendar, you should follow these steps:

1. With Outlook Connector 12.0 installed, synchronize your calendar in Microsoft Office Outlook with the MSN Calendar service one last time.
2. After synchronization is complete, do not create new items on the MSN Calendar site. If you do, you will have to synchronize again using Outlook Connector 12.0 before migrating to Outlook Connector 12.1.
3. Install Outlook Connector 12.1.
4. Start Outlook. At this point, the Outlook Connector 12.1 will upload all of your appointments and meetings to your new Windows Live Calendar.

De acordo com o post no blog You Had Me At EHLO, estas são as principais novidades:

• We introduced the capability for you to select the type of backup solution you want to utilize when analyzing the cost of various disk configurations.  You can now choose either VSS Clone, VSS Snapshot, or disable the feature all together.  We also adjusted the language to recommend usage of VSS clones or a solution that can guarantee fast recovery (3 minutes + log replay) in the event that you choose to deploy large mailboxes without continuous replication.
• We allow you to choose as to whether you want to price things out on an individual component perspective (e.g. disk cost) or from an entire solution cost.
• We allow you to enter in the number of storage enclosures and storage controllers, their relevant costs and power consumption as well.
• We simplified the SCC vs. CCR tab.

O Update Rollup 5 para Exchange 2007 SP1 está disponível. E agora?

Agora instala-se, claro está!

*MAS ESPEREM*! Antes de o fazerem, o pessoal do blog You Had Me At EHLO publicou uma informação bastante importante:

1) Service startup issue as described in KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944752 as well as our previous blog post.

• The rollup installer will now make the required modifications to the config files, even create new config files if not found. If customers have already modified the config files and have a generatePublisherEvidence setting, it will be left intact. Note that you still need the right version of .NET (see KB 944752) for the fix to take effect.
• Un-installation of the rollup will not rollback the addition of generatePublisherEvidence to config files.

2) Blank OWA logon page after installation of rollups 3 and 4, if you have modified logon.aspx file

• The rollup installer will now overwrite any OWA script files if required to ensure proper operation of OWA. You will need to redo any customization after installation of the rollup.

Já leram com atenção? OK, então agora estão prontos para a instalação do Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB953467). Aqui fica um breve descrição desta actualização:

Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) resolves issues that were found in Exchange Server 2007 SP1 since the software was released. This update rollup is highly recommended for all Exchange Server 2007 SP1 customers.

For a list of changes that are included in this update rollup, see KB953467.

This update rollup does not apply to Exchange Server 2007 Release To Manufacturing (RTM). For a list of update rollups applicable to Exchange Server 2007 RTM, refer to the section Update rollups for Exchange Server 2007 RTM in the Knowledge Base article KB937052.

This is a cumulative update rollup and replaces the following:

• KB945684 Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB945684)
• KB948016 Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB948016)
• KB949870 Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB949870)
• KB952580 Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB952580)

O tamanho da actualização é aproximadamente 66MB (o UR 4 andava à volta dos 40MB). O processo de instalação é bastante simples, basta fazer download do ficheiro de actualização, de acordo com a arquitectura do sistema (x64 ou x86), fazer duplo clique e já está!

A instalação demorou aproximadamente 10 minutos na minha máquina virtual em Hyper-V. Quando o processo terminou pude constatar que a versão do Exchange Server 2007 é agora a 8.1.336.0, o que confirmei pela observação do event ID 1000 no Application Event Log.
