MVP Summit 2007

Outlook 2007 Rules Get Started

Managing your e-mail can take a lot of time and energy. Create specific rules in Outlook 2007 to route mail into folders, forward mail to other people and devices, and to receive notifications when mail arrives from specific parties.
Topics in this guide:

  • Route E-mail from Distribution Lists
  • Organize Voice Mail Messages
  • Collect Responses for a Meeting Request
  • Flag E-Mail Messages
  • Create Customized Rules

TechDays 2007: a minha sessão

Ufff!

Some messages, such as encrypted messages, prevent Exchange from modifying the content of the original message. Exchange enables you to control how your organization handles these messages. When you create a new disclaimer, you can decide whether to wrap a message that can't be modified in a message envelope that contains the disclaimer, reject the message if a disclaimer can't be added, or let the message continue without a disclaimer.
The following list shows each fallback action and its description:

  • Wrap If the disclaimer can't be inserted into the original message, Exchange encloses, or "wraps," the original message in a new message envelope. Then the disclaimer is inserted into the new message.
    Important:
If an original message is wrapped in a new message envelope, subsequent transport rules are applied to the new message envelope, not to the original message. Therefore, you must configure transport rules with disclaimer actions that wrap original messages in a new message body after you configure other transport rules.
    Note:
If the original message can't be wrapped in a new message envelope, the original message is not delivered. The sender of the message receives a non-delivery report (NDR) that explains why the message was not delivered.
  • Ignore If the disclaimer can't be inserted into the original message, Exchange lets the original message continue unmodified. No disclaimer is added.
  • Reject If the disclaimer can't be inserted into the original message, Exchange doesn't deliver the message. The sender of the message receives an NDR that explains why the message wasn't delivered.

Exchange Server 2007 Edge Transport and Messaging Protection

In deploying the Exchange 2007 based messaging protection solution, Microsoft IT used all messaging protection features of the Edge Transport server role and Forefront Security for Exchange Server to block, delete, reject, or quarantine unwanted messages. To further increase security, servers were hardened and audited for vulnerabilities to ensure readiness for Internet visibility. The many steps that Microsoft IT took to design a network environment, combined with the messaging protection features of Exchange Server 2007, resulted in greater flexibility, fewer false positives, and reduced TCO.

Nova versão do Jetstress (v.08.01.0075)

A nova versão, v.08.01.0075, corrige alguns problemas, que estão descritos no blog do Hyungmin Lee: Jetstress 08.01.0075 has fixed a list of issues.

Overview
Use Jetstress to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users. You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.

Note Jetstress is only supported when running with Exchange 2000, Exchange 2003, Exchange 2007 or newer versions of ESE.DLL. Also, due to this support limitation, Jetstress is only supported on Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, Advanced Server, Datacenter and newer Windows OS platforms (Windows NT 4.0 and older builds are not supported).

Exchange 2007 SP1

Standby Continuous Replication (SCR)
For such a great feature, we obviously needed a new name!
With Exchange 2007, we introduced Clustered Continuous Replication (CCR) for replication of data between 2 servers within a cluster within the same datacenter. With SCR, data replicates to a non-clustered server in a remote datacenter. If the primary datacenter becomes unavailable, the standby replica in the second datacenter is readily available to be activated.

Mobility
We'll have new policies for:

  • Enforcing encryption of main memory contents on device
  • Enforcing which applications are allowed/blocked from running on the device
  • Enforcing networking capabilities: disable wifi, Bluetooth, infrared, external storage
  • Enforcing communication capabilities: disable SMS, MMS, POP/IMAP, disable camera

OWA
SP1 will fill in the feature holes that we just didn't have time to complete by RTM:

  • Personal distribution lists
  • S/MIME
  • Rules
  • Monthly calendar view
  • Deleted items recovery
  • Public folder access

OWA 2007 SP1 spell checking will add support for:

  • Arabic
  • Korean

OWA 2007 SP1 will add support for viewing Office 2007 file formats as HTML.

Exchange Management Console
SP1 will fill in the GUI holes that we just didn't have time to complete by RTM, including:

  • Public folder configuration
  • POP and IMAP configuration
  • SendAs permission configuration
  • Delegation wizard scenarios

Web Services
New web service coverage will include:

  • Public folder access
  • Delegate management
  • Folder permission management

IPv6
On Longhorn Server, we will support Exchange 2007 on native IPv6 networks.

Move Mailbox
This vital tool administrator tool has been beefed up to include import and export to a .pst

Update for Exchange Server 2003 (KB 930241)

Mais informações no artigo da Knowledge Base: The Exchange 2003 database does not mount, and event IDs 9518 and 9519 are logged in the Application log.

Overview
After applying a version of Store.exe that is later than 06.05.7651.26 on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the Exchange databases may fail to mount if the security descriptor of the database object has been modified to include a well-known user or group and more than one domain exists in the forest. This problem can also occur if a security identifier (SID) in the database object has conflicting values with another object in Active Directory directory service for one of the following attributes:

  • objectSID
  • msExchMasterAccountSid
  • SIDHistory
These three attributes must be unique within the forest.
In the above conditions the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service will experience an ecAmbiguousAlias error when enumerating the groups and users that are assigned permissions to the store databases objects in Active Directory. This error prevents the affected database from mounting.
This update will enable the database object to be mounted by ignoring the well-known group objects and logging an error message when two objects are returned for a single SID.
