Ilse Van Criekinge has recently joined Microsoft as a Technology Advisor - Microsoft Unified Communications. Before that she worked as an ICT Trainer and Consultant for Global Knowledge. Being an MCT, Ilse has offered several companies guidance in their Exchange and MOM deployments, as well as auditing the disaster recovery capabilities in their mail environment. During the last couple of years she has ignited many IT Professionals with the power of Exchange and OCS, by delivering training and by co-founding a new user group Pro-Exchange in Belgium, focused on Microsoft Unified Communications. Ilse has held the Exchange MVP award for three years since April 2007. Ilse has co-authored an Exchange Exam Prep Guide, written Sapien's Exchange Management Shell: TFM book.

Hoje é dia de festa… E vão 5!

Pois é, a brincar a brincar, faz hoje 5 anos que este blog teve início. Foi no longínquo dia de 27 de Outubro de 2004 que coloquei aqui o meu primeiro post, na altura ainda nem sabia muito bem que rumo ia tomar.

935 (!) posts depois, cá estou eu ainda, espero que ainda a ser útil à comunidade falante de Português (1 abraço para os meus leitores Brasileiros) de Exchange.

Confesso-vos que o percurso não foi fácil, muitas vezes equacionei abandonar este blog e manter apenas o seu “irmão”, disponível em http://msmvps.com/blogs/ehlo/, com a diferença de ser totalmente em Inglês.

Na minha vida profissional também muita coisa mudou nestes 1826 dias:

• Tive 4 nomeações de MVP (2005, 2006, 2007 e 2008)
• Mudei 2 vezes de empregador (ParaRede > Unisys > Microsoft)
• Criei 2 novos blogs:

A Microsoft lançou recentemente o Exchange Server Training Portal, um site repleto de recursos de aprendizagem do novíssimo Exchange Server 2010 e também do Exchange Server 2007.

Como a vulnerabilidade do IIS (Security Advisory 971492) afecta o Exchange 2003

A Microsoft publicou recentemente o Security Advisory 971492, que alerta para uma vulnerabilidade nos Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0, 5.1 e 5.0 (7.0 não é afectado), que pode permitir elevação de privilégios.

Esta vulnerabilidade apenas ocorre quando o WebDAV está activado. Como os servidores Exchange Server 2003 utilizam WebDAV para permitir o acesso às mailboxes, estes servidores estão potencialmente em risco.

Para saber se o WebDAV está ou não a ser utilizado por um servidor, podem utilizar o método descrito pela Jane Lewis no seu blog.

Para mitigar o risco, sigam os procedimentos descritos no Microsoft Security Advisory 971492.

[UPDATE]

De acordo com o Security Research and Defense blog, o OWA não é afectado:

Question: Is Outlook Web Access (OWA) vulnerable to the authentication bypass?
Answer: No, OWA is not vulnerable to this vulnerability. Exchange 2007 and earlier supported the WebDAV protocol but they did so with an Exchange implementation of WebDAV which only reads/write to/from the Exchange store. It does not interact with the filesystem directly.

Exchange Server 2003 entra em Suporte Estendido

O Exchange Server 2003 entrou em Suporte Estendido no passado dia 14 de Abril de 2009. Todos os detalhes da política de suporte da Microsoft e do ciclo de vida dos produtos podem ser consultados em Support.com.

Para quem ainda está a utilizar esta versão de Exchange, talvez seja uma boa altura para migrar para Exchange Server 2007… Ou até começar a planear o recentemente anunciado Exchange Server 2010..

What does this mean for customers?
The major differences between the Mainstream Support phase and the Extended Support phase are the following:

• No-charge Problem Resolution Support is not available
• Microsoft no longer accept product design change requests (CDCRs) or provide new feature functionality
• Microsoft no longer provide new non-security hotfixes without enrollment in Extended Hotfix Support

Customers have 90 days after 4/14/2009 to purchase an Extended Hotfix Support Agreement. One exception - customers who have Software Assurance can opt in for the Extended Hotfix Support Agreement at any time.

One of the important things to note is that Extended Support is still a publicly supported phase and no separate agreement is needed to obtain support.  As long as customers are opening paid incidents, they will still be able to receive support. In fact, many Premier and Pro customers who already open paid cases with Microsoft will notice little difference in the support that is provided in this phase. They will continue to be able to open paid cases, receive security updates, obtain support assistance from their TAM, etc.

Exchange Server 2007 suportado em Hyper-V... e não só!

É a notícia do dia, a Microsoft finalmente anunciou a sua política de suporte ao Exchange Server em ambientes virtuais. O Exchange não só será suportado em Hyper-V, mas também em qualquer hypervisor validado pelo programa Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP).

1. Microsoft now supports Exchange Server 2007 SP1 running Hyper-V or hypervisors validated under the Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP).

What's supported: Exchange Server 2007 SP1 running on Windows Server 2008
Supported Exchange 2007 Server Roles: All except Unified Messaging
What Hypervisor: Microsoft Hyper-V, or any hypervisor validated by MSVVP
Not supported: Differencing disks and expandable virtual disks
Not supported: Taking VM snapshots (these aren't application-aware)
Not supported: Combining Exchange's clustering features (SCC and CCR) with availability features from the virtualization layer, such as Hyper-V's quick migration.
